Cake Pops and Contractions

Well, our Easter was beautiful. The weather was nice, Trey and I went thrift shopping on Friday because he had the day off. It was basically a three-day weekend for us. I decorated eggs with the fam and went to an awesome church service, but my main accomplishment of the weekend was cake pops!

Maybe you've seen this book by Bakerella before, She has a super awesome blog as well. That's where I got the step-by-step for my baking adventure.

I'm sure most of you have already heard of/made cake pops before but those of you who haven't; basically you bake a cake, crumble it up, mix in a tub of frosting until its a truffle-like consistency, form quarter sized balls, insert a lollipop stick and dip it in a candy coating. There are a few more steps, but you get the idea.

I had heard that these were fairly hard to make because the cake ball falls off the stick when you dip it in the candy coating. I didn't have too bad of a time though. One fell off the stick and ended up in my mouth so that must have taught the others.

My advice is to have a good 4 to 5 hours blocked off to make these between refrigeration time, baking, and dipping, it's quite a long process.
Bakerella has an adorable post about little yellow chick cake pops and I wanted to make those but I decided to go with simple for my first time. Not to toot my own horn, but my family loved them at Easter dinner! There's nothing like putting a lot of effort into baking or cooking and seeing that effort pay off in deliciousness.
As for the contractions portion of this post, the reason I'm posting it so late in the day is because I woke up at 5am to contractions! I wasn't 100% sure they were contractions as I'd never had one before. After a bit of googling I confirmed that and they were coming about 15 minutes apart but after 4 hours they faded and stopped. I was so excited thinking he might be here today but it was false labor. The good thing is that they are helping me warm up for the real deal. I'm guessing within the week my baby boy will be here! If I go MIA for a few days you'll know why.
